Description: In this three-hour session, join MIDL teacher Monica Heiser in a series of short talks, guided meditations, Q&A, and independent practice time. These workshops are perfect for practitioners looking for an extended practice time in the comfort of their own home with community and guidance.


Workshop Topic: This month's workshop will be "student-centred" and explore overcoming obstacles in our personal practice. Come discuss what is happening in your practice and find solutions that might be hindering your progress. 


Structure: Three people attending the workshop will have the opportunity to have Monica and experienced community members review and fine-tune their meditation practice.

  • 9am Grounding exercise.
  • 9:10am Person 1 practice review.
  • 9:15am Talk.
  • 9:30am Guided meditation.
  • 10am Movement break.
  • 10:10am Person 2 practice review.
  • 10:15am Talk.
  • 10:30am Guided meditation.
  • 11am Q&A and Movement break.
  • 11:15am Person 3 practice review.
  • 11:20am Talk.
  • 11:30am Guided meditation.
  • 12pm Q&A / Closing remarks.


An in person retreat is being held by MIDL Teacher Krister Tranguis on the 11th-17th of August, 2025 in Valinge, Sweden in a beautiful meditation hall built there.


This intimate retreat has room for 9 meditators, with 4 spots already taken so book in fast.


If only Scandinavians show up the retreat will be held in Swedish, but if non Scandinavians show up it will be held in English.

This retreat will run for 24 hours per day for 9 days. It also has the option of starting 30 minutes earlier for a meet-and-greet with the community. MIDL retreats are very flexible and offer the option of joining the Full Retreat (FR), Working Retreat (WR), or Dropping In when You Feel Like It (DI).

  • 5 am Saturday, 30th Aug to 5 am Monday, 8th Sept, 2025.

US (EDT) 

  • 3 pm Friday, 29th Aug to 3 pm Sunday, 7th Sept, 2025.

EU (CEDT) 

  • 9 pm Friday 29th Aug 9 pm Sunday 7th Sept, 2025.

MIDL Insight Meditation: MIDL (Mindfulness in Daily Life) is a Buddhist Insight Meditation practice, based on Theravada Buddhist Suttas, designed for daily life. MIDL uses the development of samatha (calm) as a foundation for vipassana (insight) into hindrances to calm, during seated meditation, walking meditation and daily activities. Because of curiosity toward the integration of calm and insight, and its low levels of meditation-induced dukkha (suffering), MIDL has the advantage over other retreat practices in that it can be continued outside of meditation retreats in family and work life.

MIDL Teachers: Join MIDL teachers Stephen Procter, Monica Heiser, and Krister Trangius in a 10-day online MIDL Insight Meditation Retreat hosted on zoom. This Retreat is a special opportunity to withdraw from the business of everyday life and deepen your experience of calm & insight practice in the Theravada Buddhist Insight Meditation Tradition. 


Retreat: There are three options for this retreat: 

  1. Full Retreat (FR) means following the 10-day schedule, with the option of joining daily retreat group activities and private interviews with a teacher. 
  2. Working Retreat (WR) means organising your time to meditate mornings and evenings while still working while being mindful in daily life, with the option of joining daily retreat group activities. 
  3. Drop in Meditator means that you are welcome to join any of the daily retreat group activities online as displayed in the MIDL Class Calendar.


Online Meetings: The retreat will include online group meetings on Zoom throughout the day including Group sharing, Mindfulness of movement, Dhamma talks, and Optional 15-minute interviews.


Private Interviews:  

Full Retreat (FR): The first 27 Meditators registered for the Full Retreat (FR) will have the option of booking a 15-minute interview with a MIDL Teacher every second day. Full Retreat (FR) students who select Yes, in the question on interviews in the retreat registration form will be emailed an interview time appropriate for their time zone. Please note, to respect the teachers time, if you miss an interview and did not let the teacher know ahead of time that you could not make it, you will forfeit your remaining interview sessions.


Working retreat (WR): Meditators doing the Working Retreat (WR) will be offered group interviews. Please note, to respect the teachers time, if you miss an interview and did not let the teacher know ahead of time that you could not make it, you will forfeit your remaining interview sessions.


Retreat Schedule: So that you can time your meditation with the MIDL community, retreat schedules are provided in US (EDT), EU (CEDT)and AUS (AEST) time zones. A link to the retreat schedule, as a PDF, will be included with your confirmation and community events during the retreat will display on our community Google calendar.


Teacher Support: Dana: There is no formal charge for this 9-day MIDL Insight Meditation Retreat, as Stephen, Monica and Krister are offering their time as a gift preparing this retreat, and teaching it, as a gift to you in the spirit of dana (generosity & letting go). As the receiver of a gift, you also have the option to support their work by donating toward the time they have spent on the retreat using the PayPal links below.

Building the MIDL Community

With the success of the MIDL Retreat in April, we have been inspired to build the community. The first step is recognising the value of the Insight Meditation Course and the wonderful community supporting it.


To do this, we will soon introduce membership, which gives access to the full MIDL Course, classes, workshops, and retreats. 

Membership is free, and it simply requires a few minutes of effort to receive a login. 


This allows us to focus on community members whose efforts to sign up signal interest. We will then tailor the website, books, classes, workshops, and retreats to your needs.
